Nassau, Bahamas – Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Development the Hon Loretta Butler-Turner commended The Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church (BCMC) for working with the Government in establishing a cottage-style residence for children. During the Service for the Dedication of the Land and Buildings of the Zion Children’s Home Construction Project on Current Island, Eleuthera on Friday, March 4, Mrs Butler-Turner explained that the home will be for at risk children, affording them “wonderful opportunities for positive growth and development”..

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island…..Since the recent acquisition of the majority share holdings of the Grand Bahama Power Company by Canadian based company Emera, the question on the minds of the residents of Grand Bahama has been what changes will the company bring to improve the quality of service on the island. And, with the summer months fast approaching, the operating challenges that impacted the company last year May are a not so distant memory for customers. Even with Emera’s much touted announcement in December of plans for the construction of a new generating plant, residents are inquiring about what will be done in the interim to address the issue of reliability…

Nassau, Bahamas – On Sunday, February 20th, the eve of the much-anticipated groundbreaking of the $3.4 billion Baha Mar resort that is expected to transform Cable Beach, officials and partners gathered for a celebratory dinner Sunday at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel. Labour Minister Urges Businesspersons to Hire Reformed Inmates

Nassau, Bahamas – Minister of Labour and Social Development Senator the Hon. Dion Foulkes appealed to businesspersons on Thursday to be as open as possible and hire reformed inmates once they have served their time. Speaking at the opening ceremony of a male health seminar for inmates at Her Majesty’s Prisons Mr Foulkes said, “We want to appeal to the business community that when former inmates apply for a job, and they have a letter of all of the programmes they participated in, give them a second chance whether it is in the construction field, hospitality, or retail, and I will guarantee you that this country would be a better place…
